It’s spring! Flowers are opening and trees are growing young, fresh leaves.
These two videos made me think how amazing it is that although one is of plants growing slowly above ground and the other of fast-moving animals looking for food underwater, the processes they use are so similar. Make sure you watch them on full screen view.
Daniel Stoupin, the filmmaker of the marine life film Slow Life below, has written a great blog to accompany the film from which I learned that at “…night [the coral’s] polyps open up like flowers, but unlike flowers they turn into fierce predators, extend their tentacles, and sometimes invert their guts to digest the crap out of everything that they can reach.” Nice!
